Resonance: The Action Game

No, no, I haven’t decided to start from scratch to appeal to twitch gamers, I just happened to notice another hobby developer working on a game also named Resonance.

Resonance - the action game

Andrew “Overkill” Crowell has been working on a Metroid/Castlevania-esque action game with sexy limited-palette pixel art that reminds me of Ben304‘s work. You can read about its status over on the Bananattack blog.

The game has been in slow production for several years now, and seems like a sweet project.

For the record, though, I totally had the name first! :)

Woo. Recognition from a fellow indie! Who also happens to be making a Resonance!

To be honest, when I picked Resonance for a project name, it was going to be something temporary. It’s a nice name, but I realized shortly after I decided my name switch, there was an IGN game named Resonance. I see it’s since been cancelled, but, it’s still pretty high on the search results there.

And then a couple weeks ago, through a silly Twitter search, I found out about this one! I can’t remember if I commented at all yet, but your game looks very exciting. It’s been a while since I’ve played an adventure game. I look forward to trying it out when you finish!

I might change the name, if I can figure out something that matches the theme of the game. I want something distinct but comprehensive. Since you claimed the name first, making something unique will help both our chances! I just need to sit down and figure out what a good replacement would be…

Well, that’s something to think about. Anyway, I’ll try and keep a close on this site! Good luck with the game dev!

No need to change your game’s name if it matches the plot of your game. I think there should be enough room in the indie game world for two games with the same name. It doesn’t matter who claimed the name first, afterall, it’s who finishes the game first, right? :)

Good luck with your game, I’ll keep my eye on your blog!

Right. That’s brilliant. And I was just ready to announce my new novel, Resonance…
